Summary
This proposal seeks to allocate $2k USDC from our treasury to the DAO Coalition (gitcoin grant, twitter) to fund its incorporation as a 501(c)(4) and secure our seat as an associate member. This will strengthen our reputation as leaders in crypto policy, and place us in contact with an international network of DAOs working on crypto law, advocacy, and public policy.
Background
The DAO Coalition is a network of DAOs working on crypto law, advocacy, and public policy. The aim of the organization is to build a system of mutual support for DAOs working in these important areas, and to find strength in numbers while lobbying at the federal level. The DAO Coalition was originally founded by members of Lobby3 and CityDAO, and now has participation from over a dozen leading DAOs including Lex DAO, Polygon, Aragon, and Near.
The DAO Coalition is seeking to incorporate as a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization.. To facilitate this, the coalition is raising funds from its member DAOs. So far, Lobby3 and CityDAO have each proposed $10k, while Lex DAO has proposed $5k in cash with another $5k of research support to form an official position on the Lummis-Gillibrand bill (Section 204; an early priority for the coalition).
Once incorporated, the coalition will work to advocate on behalf of its member DAOs through the founders' decades of lobbying experience, as well as emergent expertise from the network of member DAOs. In other words, Lummis-Gillibrand is just the start. In the coming years, issues of critical importance to the industry and our community will be raised in Washington. Becoming members of the DAO Coalition ensures that ATX DAO's interests will be protected, and our locally developed expertise and reputation will be projected nationally.
Specification
If this proposal passes, $2k USDC will be sent to the DAO Coalition multi-sig, securing our place as an associate member in the 501(c)(4) organization upon incorporation.
In addition, a small number of ATX DAO members will represent us in the coalition's discord and at the monthly meetings. The current representatives are Ryan, Brennan, Sam, and Mason. If anyone is interested in joining as a representative, please comment below and/or contact Brennan. Unless anyone self-nominates to volunteer as a representative, Ryan, Brennan, Sam, and Mason shall remain until a proposal is passed to establish term limits, responsibilities, and an election process for DAO Coalition representatives.
Benefits
Becoming an associate member of the DAO Coalition will allow ATX DAO (and its members) to project influence at a national level, ensuring that our interests are represented in Washington for years to come. We will also ingratiate ourselves with a network of important DAOs, and solidify ATX DAO's place in the industry as a leader in crypto policy.
Drawbacks
This will have a negative impact on treasury balance, and we should not expect participation in the coalition to produce direct revenue at any point in the future. That said, this is offset by the benefits to our reputation and any inter-DAO partnerships which may emerge as we expand our network.
Outcomes
Be it resolved that $2,000 USDC will be sent from the ATX DAO treasury to the DAO Coalition (pending information on address). Ryan, Brennan, Sam, and Mason will continue as representatives until a conflicting proposal, or one that establishes term limits, responsibilities, and an election process for DAO Coalition representatives is passed.
