Thanks to everyone who took the survey! Here are the results so far, along with more context and a friendly recommendation (aka my personal opinion) on each decision:
ATX Nouns could in theory be deployed on any of the top EVM chains without causing essential tools like SnapShot to stop working. The main benefit of deploying on a chain like Optimism is lower gas costs for bidding and minting, but there are tradeoffs such as less liquidity to purchase NFTs on both the primary and secondary markets (ie. auctions and opensea).
Another option is to deploy on Ethereum Mainnet and decide in the future to migrate to a cheaper network such as Optimism.
Recommendation: deploy on Mainnet for now while gas fees are still low, and consider migrating to Optimism (or another chain) in the future when gas fees are higher. In the meantime, weāll gather some useful data on how the auctions perform on mainnet. Iām not opposed to launching on Optimism, but worry that until its usage improves relative to Ethereum mainnet, this could actually add more friction for prospective members than it seeks to reduce.
There is precedent for sending 10% of nouns and nouns forks to the treasury (or in Nounās case, the Noundersā treasury). Scholarships or competitions are 2 examples of how the community could allocate these, but ultimately the community could decide to do whatever we want. We could potentially include a plan for this in the upcoming launch proposal too.
Recommendation: Send every 10th noun to the ATX DAO treasury, and leave specific plans as a separate scope and have that convo post launch.
The reserve price is the minimum amount that can be bid, and therefore the minimum price that a membership can be purchased for from an Auction. If nobody places a bid during the auction duration, the auction ends and the membership is burned when the new auction is started.
Recommendation: Launch at 0.512 ETH. Community can always update in the future.
The target price is a configurable parameter in the Dynamic Auction Algorithm threshold that determines the length of the subsequent auctions. If an auction closes below the target price, the duration of the next auction will increase. If the a parameter in the Dynamic Auction Algorithm
Recommendation: Launch at 1 ETH. Community can always update in the future.
In each of the past membership cohorts, members were required to submit applications and be approved by an internal committee before getting access to mint. However, itās worth noting that it was still possible to bypass the application process by purchasing a membership NFT on the secondary market (thatās how I got in š). With the transition to ATX Nouns, we have the option to either continue requiring applications for access to stuff like the discord, IRL events, or voting power, or grant full access to anyone that acquires a membership NFT. If we were to continue requiring applications, prospective members could choose to apply either before or after acquiring their NFT; this minimizes the friction of bidding while still giving prospective members the option to get certainty that theyāll be able to utilize their membership NFT before acquiring it.
If applications were no longer required, anyone who wins an auction or acquires a membership NFT via other means would immediately get access to the member portal, discord, voting power on future proposals, and other member benefits.
Itās worth noting that there would be significant overhead to continuing to require applications, including the following:
- Implementing address whitelists on Guild and SnapShot for all approved members
- Reviewing memberships and notifying approved applicants in a timely manner
- Updating whitelists whenever a new member applies and is approved
- Notifying applicants of acceptance or rejection
Also worth noting that there could be certain token-gates that donāt support additional whitelists, such as the current member portal, where requiring approved applications could require additional effort or simply not be feasible.
Recommendation: I think this is the perfect opportunity for ATX DAO to experiment with getting rid of applications. While applications were beneficial in cultivating a ātrusted seedā of initial members, I think they also add a lot of overhead and centralization thatās not necessary going forward. Itās hard to know for sure from an application whether or not somebody is a good fit for ATX DAO. Even if we had a perfect application and perfect review committee that spent ample time and effort reviewing applications, it would still be possible for ābad applesā to slip through. Regardless of whether or not ATX DAO requires applications, we should implement a community covenant/code of conduct that can be enforced by a committee (maybe the multisig signers to start?) in the event that any community member repeatedly violates the code. Hopefully weāll never need it, but in the event that we do, itās best to be prepared. As long as we have this, Iām comfortable with removing the requirement to apply, and just like Nouns and the majority of its fork, make the only application be to win an auction (or acquire a membership via other means).

Thatās all Iāve got for now! Would love to hear thoughts on the above, especially if anyone disagrees, has different recommendations, or has context to add. In the meantime, weāre pushing forward on the engineering, artwork, and grant side š check out this brief update @512mace shared in the nouns forum recently for the latest, and be sure to give it a š while you're there
